Police are treating the death of a man in East Belfast overnight as suspicious. The dead man was found in a house at Lord Street, off the Beersbridge Road in the Mountpottinger area of the city. He had sustained severe head injuries. One man has been arrested. It is not believed to be a sectarian incident.
Neighbours heard sounds of a disturbance at around 4am this morning. The police found one man dead in the living room of the terraced house. He had sustained very severe head injuries.
It was not immediately clear how the man had died, but detectives are thought to be working on the theory that the deceased had been involved in some sort of fight.
Another man arrested at the scene was taken away for questioning about what police were officially describing as a "suspicious death". A post mortem on the victim will be carried out later.
Neighbours said that both the man who died and the suspect taken in for questioning were well known in the area. It is understood that the men lived near each other in Lord Street.
