Daniel Pearl,
Bush condemned killing as "barbaric act"
The American journalist Daniel Pearl has been confirmed as dead, a month after his abduction in Pakistan.
The Wall Street Journal reporter disappeared in the city of Karachi while working on a story about Islamic militants.
A Pakistani source close to the investigation said that a videotape sent to Pakistan and US authorities shows Mr Pearl's throat being slit with a knife.
He said that the tape shows Mr Pearl speaking, as if he were conducting an interview, when an assailant suddenly grabs him and slits his throat.
His body has not yet been found and it is unclear when he was executed.
A State Department spokesman condemned the killing as an outrage, while President Bush said that it was a "barbaric act".
