Daniel Pearl,Missing since 23 January
The Wall Street Journal has said that the body found on a roadside in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi is not that of missing journalist, Daniel Pearl. US media had earlier quoted Pakistani police as saying they believed the body belonged to Mr Pearl.
The dead man had been shot through the mouth, according to reports. The US State Department said earlier that it was looking into the reports.
The 38-year-old Wall Street Journal correspondent disappeared on 23 January in Karachi after telling his wife he was going to meet the leader of a little-known militant Islamic organisation.
The National Movement for the Restoration of Pakistani Sovereignty, a relatively unknown group, had threatened to kill him by Thursday, then extended the deadline to Friday. The group had sent a series of e-mails earlier in the week with photos of Pearl in captivity.
