Dublin man charged in connection with Beit thefts

A 25-year-old Dublin man has been charged in connection with the theft of two Beit paintings last June.

A 25-year-old Dublin man has been charged in connection with the theft of two Beit paintings last June. The paintings were taken from Rossborough House in County Wicklow.

John Kearns, of Corrib Road, Terenure, was charged under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1997 at Naas District Court. He was remanded in custody to appear before Clover Hill District Court, Ballyfermot, tomorrow morning.

The works, which are valued at about €4m, were stolen when an armed gang broke into the house. The man was arrested on Friday evening by detectives from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

He was detained over the weekend under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. He is the first person to be charged in connection with the theft.
