Thousands of Congo refugees are defying warnings and are returning to Goma after the eruption of the Mount Nyiragongo volcano. Officials have estimated that as much as 80% of the eastern Congolese town has been damaged.

Fears for the refugees are now focusing on the risk of disease. UN officials are particularly worried that people have been drinking contaminated water from Lake Kivu. They say this could result in a cholera outbreak.
