The Northern Secretary has said the British government is treating seriously all requests for documents relating to the 1974 Dublin and Monaghan bombings. Dr John Reid made his remarks in a statement following talks in London with Mr Justice Henry Barron, the judge heading the inquiry into the atrocities in which 33 people died.

Dr Reid said that the UK authorities, specifically the Northern Ireland Forensic Science Service and the Police Service of Northern Ireland, had already supplied large amounts of material at the request of Mr Justice Barron.

Bereaved relatives and victims of the bombings have accused the British government of dragging its feet in complying with the inquiry's 11-month-old request for documentation.
