US Taliban fighter to be charged

An American who allegedly fought with the Taliban is to be charged with conspiracy to kill US nationals.

An American who allegedly fought with the Taliban is to be charged with conspiracy to kill US nationals. John Walker Lindh is being held aboard a US warship in the Arabian Sea.

The US Attorney General, John Ashcroft, said Lindh would be turned over to the US Justice Department to be charged with aiding and abetting a terrorist organisation.

The Americans are currently holding 50 other Taliban detainees at their military base in Cuba, including an Australian and a small number of British and French citizens.
