Man arrested as part of inquiry into hotel murder

watch

A man has been arrested as part of the murder inquiry into the death of a woman in Limerick this morning. The woman's body was discovered in a hotel shortly after 6am today.

Earlier, Gardaí named her as Grainne Dillon, a native of Cork City. She was 24. The 26-year-old man is being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and is being questioned about a firearms offence.

Another staff member discovered her body in the kitchen of Jury's Inn hotel, where she was a member of the hotel's management. She had multiple wounds to her body as a result of what Gardaí are describing as a visious and frenzied attack.

Gardaí are interviewing staff and guests as part of their investigation. They are trying to establish a motive for the attack. The hotel is a popular location for visitors and was full last night because of the European cup rugby match being held in Limerick today between Munster and Harlequins.

There were 300 guests staying there and all of them have to be interviewed about events at the hotel late last night and early this morning. It is the second tragedy to hit the hotel in the past two months. On 16 November, a four-year-old boy fell to his death from a fifth floor window after wandering away from his parents.
