The woman who died in a housefire in Monaghan last night has been named.

The woman who died in a housefire in Monaghan last night has been named. She was Kathleen Beattie, aged 79. She was a widow. Mrs Beattie was staying with her son and daughter-in-law in a house in Scotshouse when the fire broke out.

The blaze was reported in the village, which is near Clones, shortly before 2.00am today. It appears that Mrs Beattie was overcome by smoke and was unable to escape from the back bedroom of her bungalow.
