Bush fires, Volunteers helping firefighters
Police in the Australian state of New South Wales are setting up a new task force to catch the arsonists who, they believe, started more than 100 bush fires near the city of Sydney.
The force will bring together psychiatrists, scientists and criminal investigators to build a mental profile of the kind of person who would deliberately start fires.
In several small towns in the state of New South Wales, teams of volunteers have been working alongside firefighters trying to save properties. Gusty winds and high temperatures are predicted for this weekend, which could worsen the situation.
Earlier, three 15-year-old boys were detained on suspicion of lighting three small fires 60 miles south of Sydney. A 20-year-old man was arrested for allegedly lighting fires along a railway line west of Sydney and in Canberra, a motorist made a citizen's arrest of a young man near Parliament House.
