The Independent Industrial Tribunal in National Irish Bank has recommended that staff there should be awarded a lump sum and improved overtime payments for the introduction of the euro.

The key elements of the recommendation are: one day's leave or a minimum of £150 payment for all the bank's 700 staff, and overtime arrangements to be increased by 30% between key periods. A £600 payment and a day's leave for those directly impacted by the euro have also been recommended.

The IBOA has agreed to convene an immediate ballot in the National Irish Bank. Similar ballots have also been convened at AIB and the Ulster Bank, the outcomes of which should be know early next week.

The Bank of Ireland's Tribunal is also expected to issue a recommendation on the euro issue early next week.
