Tony Blair,Britain "damaged by history of missed opportunities"
The British Prime Minister has given his strongest indication yet that it would be in Britain's interest to join the European single currency. Tony Blair said in his keynote speech in Birmingham that Britain must accept that its future lay in Europe.
He said that Britain had been damaged by its history of missed opportunities in Europe, which must now be rectified. That is likely to be interpreted by all sides as a virtual declaration that Britain would be foolish to miss the next opportunity to join the euro.
Opinion polls consistently show that, while the majority of British people oppose joining the single currency, most believe it will happen.
