O'Rourke denies leaking information to media

Mary O'Rourke has strongly denied that she or anyone from her department leaked information to the media leading to the resignation of CIÉ chairman Brian Joyce.

The Minister for Public Enterprise told the Oireachtas sub committee inquiring into cost overruns at CIÉ that her department received a Freedom of Information request from Irish Times journalist Frank McDonald in January 2000.

Mr McDonald was looking for correspondence between Mrs O'Rourke and Mr Joyce relating to the Luas light rail system. The Minister said that 36 items, dated 1996-1999, were located and were made available to Mr McDonald in a legal and proper fashion.
