Population reaches 120-year high

The population of the Republic of Ireland at 3.84 million now stands at its highest level in 120 years.

Net immigration is at an all-time peak at 26,300, while the number of births less deaths is at its highest level since 1998.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office also show that the economy continues to create jobs, but at a slower pace than in previous years.

The unemployment rate in the three months from March to May remains unchanged at 3.7%.
