e-coli discovered in County Galway water supply

listen

Traces of e-coli pollution have been discovered in the water supply in Ballinasloe. Emergency water supplies are being provided for householders in the County Galway town.

Householders are being advised not to drink tap water. Alternative supplies of drinking water are being made available from tankers located in different areas of the town.

Town engineer Michael Shiels says that the council is trying to locate the source of the water contamination, but has so far been unable to trace it. The town water supply is taken from the River Suck, which flows through Ballinasloe.

This is the second water pollution problem in the county in recent months. Water supplies in Galway City were seriously contaminated in June.
