Belfast assault - RUC appeal for information

RUC at Strandtown station are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault which happened on the Newtownards road in Belfast earlier today.

RUC at Strandtown station are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault which happened on the Newtownards road in Belfast earlier today. At 1.40am a 24-year-old man was discovered outside Megan memorial church between Montrose and Chamberlain streets.

He was admitted to hospital where he is now in intensive care. His condition is described as critical.

In a separate development, the RUC have discovered a number of hoax devices following a warning telephone call to the Samaritans in Belfast. A man called the Samaritans at around 11pm last night. He said that a number of devices had been left in Barrick Street, Derham Court, in the city.

RUC officers found two devices, and the area was then cleared. British Army bomb experts attending the scene declared that the devices were a hoax.
