John McDonagh, Jailed for 10 years for rape
A 27-year-old Connemara man has received a ten-year sentence for rape. John McDonagh is already serving a life sentence for murdering 17-year-old schoolgirl Siobhán Hynes in December 1998. Last month, a jury reached a unanimous guilty verdict on the rape and murder charges.
In the Central Criminal Court, Mr Justice Patrick Smith described John McDonagh's attack on Siobhán Hynes as brutal. He said that the amount of pain inflicted by John McDonagh must have been intense. Mr McDonagh, who is one of six children, has no previous convictions, is unmarried and is the father of a five-year-old daughter.
