Some of the world's leading atmospheric experts have warned that global warming is taking place at a much faster rate than previously predicted. The scientists, members of the United Nations International Panel on Climate change say that global temperatures will rise by almost twice as much as they suggested five years ago.

The report comes ahead of a key meeting next week aimed at saving the Kyoto Agreement and reducing greenhouse gases. The talks stalled after the Americans decided to withdraw. President Bush has cited doubts about the science of climate change. However, the Chairman of the UN group, Robert Watson, said that the report states categorically that the earth's climate is warming.
