Michael McDowell, The report is based on inquiries carried out by the Attorney General and the Garda Síochána
A report has said that the likelihood that there was an attempt to suppress evidence in the 1970 Arms Trial is remote. However, the report said that it could not be ruled out definitively. The report from the Minister for Justice, John O'Donoghue, follows the recent controversy over a RTÉ Prime Time programme.
The programme claimed that a trial statement by the former head of military intelligence, Colonel Michael Hefferon, had been tampered with. The report is based on inquiries carried out by the Attorney General and the Garda Síochána in the wake of the programme as well as an examination of papers in the Department of Justice.
