Two men have appeared at a special sitting of Limerick District Court this evening in connection with a £1m drugs find. The haul was discovered on a farm in Meelick, County Clare on Tuesday afternoon. Michael Shannon, a 35-year-old married father of five from Prospect, Limerick and 20-year-old Brian Hanley from Meelick were charged with being in possession of 100,000 ecstasy tablets for the purpose of selling or otherwise supplying. The drugs were found hidden amongst boxes of tiles in a crate which was being unloaded by both of the accused.

The court also heard that £50,000 worth of cannabis and £17,000 in cash were also found during a Garda search of the sheds on the farm. Both men were remanded in custody until next Thursday with consent to bail. They were ordered to report twice daily to Henry Street Garda Station and a curfew was imposed between 10pm and 8am.
