Industrial action by the largest union at Guinness Ireland has been averted this afternoon. A meeting in Dublin of the Executive of the Guinness Staff Union decided to enter new talks with management. The talks will centre on redundancy packages for 55 of their members at the company's Dundalk plant, which is scheduled to close.
A spokesman for the union said that the negotiations would begin tomorrow. He said that the GSU would negotiate an agreement which would be totally separate to the deal agreed between the company and the other five unions in April.
