Dublin's St Patrick's Parade finally went ahead today, two months after it was postponed because of the foot and mouth crisis. The organisers say that the parade was a success and they were delighted with the huge numbers of people who turned up to watch.
The weather held and the crowds came and the St Patrick's Parade was as noisy, colourful and, according to the organisers, as well-attended as usual. Around half a million people lined the streets to watch eleven theatre groups and 14 bands from all over the country perform. The parade was led by the Lord Mayor, attended by the mounted Gardaí.
Among the star turns were RTÉ's Fair City celebrities and of course St Patrick, who did not seem to mind that his big day had been postponed. The only missing ingredient was the American marching bands. They would have come in March but were unable to re-schedule. However, there was still plenty to entertain the crowds.
Today's parade was the culmination of two days of festivities in Dublin, held over from March, last night the crowds enjoyed the Skyfest fireworks above the city.
