The former RTÉ sports journalist and champion athlete, Brendan O'Reilly, has died. He was 71. Mr O'Reilly died this morning in hospital in Dublin after an illness. He is survived by his wife and four children. The Fine Gael leader, Michael Noonan, paid tribute to Mr O'Reilly. "As a long standing RTÉ presenter, he brought great sporting moments into the homes of millions," he said, "He was the great gentleman of Irish athletics and broadcasting, with very high standards, integrity and a great sense of fun." The Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation, Dr Jim McDaid, has also paid tribute Mr O'Reilly, saying that his commentaries reflected his great sense of sportsmanship and his regard for the true values of sport.
