watch

The former Minister for Communications, Michael Lowry, has issued a statement on a report in a Sunday newspaper, which referred to a decision he made in 1996 in relation to Telecom Éireann and Esat Telecom. Today's Sunday Tribune claimed Mr Lowry had personally instructed Telecom Éireann to assist Esat in providing voice telephony services to its corporate customers. Mr Lowry in his statement confirmed this, but said that his decision was based on legal advice concerning a directive from the European Commission.
