Slobodan Milosevic, Allegations of smuggled gold
The former Yugoslav President, Slobodan Milosevic, is facing arrest following the opening of a police investigation into his financial affairs. The authorities have ordered a probe into allegations that Mr Milosevic smuggled more than $1m worth of gold abroad last year around the time he was ousted by a popular uprising.
Officials say that prosecutors are ready to lay formal charges of corruption against the former President. The Deputy Serbian Prime Minister, Zacko Kurach, said that Mr Milosevic's possible involvement in political assassinations and abductions would be investigated.
