There is speculation today that a wealthy Irish businessman has expressed an interest in Eircom's fixed line business. It is reported that Pearse Flynn from Cork, who was formerly president of a division at the French telecom company Alcatel, has kept regular contact with and has requested information from Eircom over the last few months. It is unclear however, whether this interest will materialise into a bid for the fixed line assets.
