A passenger plane was forced to shorten its journey today because of fears about a cracked windscreen. The Ryanair flight was en route from Bournemouth to Dublin when it was diverted to Cardiff airport. The 50 passengers on the Boeing 737 were safe and well when the plane touched down in South Wales at around 5pm, a Cardiff Airport spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman said: "The flight, which was due for Dublin from Bournemouth, was diverted to Cardiff because of what was thought to be a cracked windscreen. The airport was put on standby and the plane landed perfectly. Passengers were taken by coach to Bristol to catch a plane to finish their journey." She said experts would examine the aeroplane's windscreen.
