Killiney mudslide continues to affect rail services

The mudslide at Killiney station is affecting services again today. The DART is running close to the normal schedule between Dalkey and Howth. There is no service between Dalkey and Greystones and no bus transfers. Rosslare Intercity and Arklow suburban have also been affected but for these lines there are bus transfers.

Meanwhile, a Wicklow County Councillor has claimed that building work near the Killiney DART line may be causing destabilised soil, which has lead to the temporary closure of the line. Councillor Derek Mitchell said that there have been a number of large building jobs just above the line, some of which are still going on. "I am concerned that these could have destabilised the soil. I cannot understand how planning permission was given for them." Councillor Mitchell has called for temporary buses and motorway bus lanes to be put into operation to allow Wicklow people get the DART in Dun Laoghaire as he is concerned that the DART and mainline services to Wicklow may be cancelled for a week or more.
