A 24-year-old County Clare man has appeared at a special sitting of Limerick District court in connection with a killing in the city a month ago. Paul Coffey, of Derryfadda, Clonlara, County Clare, was charged with the murder of Eddie Ryan at Cathedral Place Limerick on November 12 last. Eddie Ryan (41) was shot in the Moose Bar in Limerick city centre that night. A 63-year-old woman and her 26-year-old daughter who were sitting close to him were seriously injured in the shooting.
The court was told the accused made no reply when charged. He was granted free legal aid, and the court was told an application for bail would be made in due course to the High Court. He was remanded in custody to appear at the District court again next Thursday December 14. Meanwhile four people, two men and two women, arrested yesterday are still being questioned by Gardaí as part of the investigation into Eddie Ryan's murder.
