German health and agriculture ministers are gathering in Bonn today for crisis talks over the outbreak of BSE in the country. The meeting is taking place amid mounting pressure for Europe-wide action, to stop the spread of the disease, as a growing number of EU countries report cases. President Jacques Chirac of France said that there must be a move towards a total ban on animal feed containing meat as soon as possible in an effort to contain the disease. German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has said that a blanket ban on meat-based animal feed is likely to be imposed throughout Germany from Monday. And, in the Dail next week, the Labour party is to call for ALL older animals to be tested for BSE.
