At least seven Russian soldiers were killed this afternoon in an explosion in a cafe in Chechnya in which at least 14 people died. The explosion took place in the village of Chiri-Yurt, 18 miles from the Chechan capital, Grozny. Chechen rebels claimed to have caused the blast. Russia has lost more than 2,500 troops since pushing into the region a year ago to crush separatists.
