Rachael Kiely, Murdered near home
Gardaí in Cork investigating the murder of 22-year old beautician Rachael Kiely have renewed their appeal to the public for assistance. A team of 40 detectives and uniformed Gardaí are now working on the investigation, searching the area where her body was found on Thursday night and carrying out house to house inquiries on the Inishmore Estate in Ballincollig, where she lived.
The death of Ms Kiely has cast a deep sense of shock over the community on the Inishmore Estate on this Bank Holiday weekend. Gardaí are now hoping that vital clues in their investigation will come from that same community. She walked regularly along the wooded path where on Thursday evening she met her death. The walk to the Weirs, as it is known locally, is also popular with many other walkers and Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area between 4.00pm and 8.00pm on Thursday to contact them.
They believe that there may have been a struggle between Rachael Kiely and her attacker and somebody may have heard her screams. The man who attacked her would also have had to make his getaway from the scene and his clothes would most likely have been dishevelled. Gardaí are also calling on people who may notice unusual behaviour or someone they know acting out of character or in an agitated state to contact them.
