Byrne father's clothing found in Waterford Estuary

watch

On the third day of searching the Waterford Estuary, Gardaí say an item of clothing, believed to belong to Stephen Byrne, has been found in the Waterford Estuary.

The operation began on Friday following the discovery of the bodies of Mr Byrne's two sons. Ten-year-old Alan and six-year-old Shane were found dead on a stretch of coastline. It is believed that they had been with their father when he drove the family car off Duncannon Pier.

Mr Byrne's wife, Maeve, was found stabbed to death at the family home in Cuffesgrange in County Kilkenny on Wednesday. Mr Byrne has not been seen since his wife's death.
