Searches in the Waterford estuary for missing Kilkenny man Steven Byrne have been called off for the night and will resume in the morning at first light. Mr Byrne's wife was found stabbed to death at the family home in Cuffesgrange on Wednesday and the bodies of couple's two sons were recovered on the shoreline earlier yesterday. This afternoon, the Garda helicopter flew from Baldonnel to help in the search of the twelve miles of coastline.

Garda divers searched off Duncannon in County Wexford for the missing man. Chief Superintendent Tom Saunderson described the scene in Duncannon as harrowing and spoke of the shock amongst the community. It is believed that the boys, ten-year-old Shane and six-year-old Alan, drowned after their father drove the family car off Duncannon Pier. The car has since been removed from the waters.
