The body of the murdered woman, Maeve Byrne, was removed to St Patrick's Cathedral in Kilkenny tonight and will be buried tomorrow, after requiem mass at noon, in Foulkestown cemetery, Kilkenny.

An air search is continuing for her husband and two sons. 41-year-old Stephen Byrne and the two boys, aged 10 and 6, were last seen on Monday. Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have seen a white Ford Escort hatchback, registration number 94 WX 2953 to contact them. As yet Gardaí say that they have received no information of any sightings of the vehicle or Mr Byrne and his sons, Shane and Alan.

37-year-old Maeve Byrne was found on the floor of her living room. Gardaí gained access to the house yesterday afternoon after relatives alerted them. Following a post mortem examination, Gardaí in Kilkenny began a murder investigation this morning. On Morning Ireland, Garda Superintendent Kevin Donoghue said that there were no signs of forced entry at the house, but stressed that the technical examination of the scene was not yet complete.
