The Taoiseach described the announcement this afternoon as "a very strong endorsement of the Government's plans to make Ireland a world-class e-business centre." Microsoft Corporation's Chief Operating Officer, Bob Herbold, said that the new centre would play "a vital strategic role" for the company.
Microsoft is marking its 15th year in Ireland this year. It originally opened with 100 people, which has now increased to 1,600. Microsoft has awarded the contract for the establishment and maintenance of the new centre to Abovenet, and the hosting facilities will be provided by Esat-X.
