Dublin's light rail project, LUAS, is on schedule, according to the LUAS watchdog body. The LUAS group, which published its third report today states that the two core lines, Tallaght to City Centre and Sandyford to St Stephen's Green, are progressing in accordance with the timetable set down by the Government in May 1998. The Tallaght line and the Sandyford line should be fully operational by mid-2003.

The Minister for Public Enterprise, Mary O'Rourke, also announced this morning that her department has appointed consultants to organise the competition for the selection of an operator to run the LUAS system in a public/private partnership. It is expected that the operation contract will be signed by Sept 2001.
