RTÉ has reported that the station accumulated losses of over £16 million last year. With a further deficit predicted for the current year, the station's Director General, Bob Collins, has confirmed that they will be looking for an increase in the television licence fee by the end of the year. However, he refused to state just how much of an increase was being sought.
