The British Army in Sierra Leone has confirmed that meetings have taken place with rebels who have kidnapped eleven Royal Irish Regiment soldiers there. Most of the troops are from the North, but two are from the Republic.
The troops, who have been helping to train government forces, were seized on Friday by a rebel group known as the Westside Boys. A spokesman for the British military mission in Sierra Leone, Lieutenant Commander Tony Cramp, said that talks were continuing, but progress had been slow.
