French officials have revised the death toll from last week's Concorde disaster outside Paris. They say 113 people, as originally reported, were killed. They said the apparent discovery of more remains, bringing the number of 114, was due to a mix up in registering bodies from the scene. Air accident experts have begun meeting in Paris to assess the results of investigations into the cause of the Concorde crash. Preliminary findings have confirmed suggestions that the accident may have been caused by a tyre bursting on the runway. It is thought that fragments from a wheel entered the fuel tank and punctured it.

A British Airways Concorde was forced to make an emergency landing in Newfoundland in Canada because of fears of a fuel leak. The captain said that it was a precaution because there was a petrol-like smell in the plane. The Concorde had been on its way from London to New York when it made the unscheduled landing. Earlier, another British Airways Concorde was delayed at Heathrow after a fault was discovered in the plane's refuelling system.
