George Speight, Set to release hostages
The Fiji rebel leader George Speight has signed an agreement with the Fijian military aimed at resolving the country's political crisis. All 27 hostages, including deposed Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry held by the rebels for over seven weeks, will be released on Thursday as part of the deal. The agreement allows the traditional Great Council of Chiefs to choose a new president and interim administration, which will replace the interim government set up on by the military last Tuesday. The rebels say that they have been offered an amnesty under the deal.
