Gerry Kelly, Believes Good Friday Agreement is key to change
Sinn Fein's Gerry Kelly has said that the suspension of the North's power-sharing Executive had brought many Nationalists and Republicans to their lowest ebb in years. Speaking at an Easter rally in North Belfast, the route of which was restricted by the Parades Commission, the North Belfast Assemblyman said that the Good Friday Agreement was the key to bringing the necessary change.
Mr Kelly has said that he has been told by the RUC that his name is on a Loyalist paramilitary hit list found in west Belfast. Mr Kelly said that the discovery of the list shows that Loyalist murder gangs are intent on targeting Republicans and Nationalists. He added that the threats are not directed exclusively at people involved in politics because four taxi drivers are also named in the document. An RUC spokesman has confirmed that a man had been charged with possession of documents likely to be of use to terrorists.
