An 18-year-old youth has appeared at Limerick District Court charged with murdering his mother. Damien Donnan from the Thomond Gate area of the city, was charged with murdering his mother, 42-year-old Jennifer Donnan at their home early yesterday morning. He has been remanded in custody and will come before the court again tomorrow.

Damien Donnan, the eldest of the three Donnan children, was arrested shortly after 4am yesterday morning. The Court was told he made no reply to the murder charge. Defence solicitor Ted McCarthy asked that some form of psychological evaluation be carried out on the accused so that he knows and appreciates what is occurring around him. He also asked that this assessment be done at the Central Mental Hospital. Adjourning the case, Judge Tom O'Donnell recommended that the accused receive in custody any medical attention he requires.
