Extensive underground system for Dublin to be considered

A proposal to construct an extensive underground metro style system in Dublin is to be considered by a Cabinet sub-committee, the Dáil has been told.

A proposal to construct an extensive underground metro style system in Dublin is to be considered by a Cabinet sub-committee, the Dáil has been told. The Minister for Public Enterprise, Mary O'Rourke, revealed that the Cabinet sub-committee on infrastructure are to hear presentations next month on the possibility of constructing this metro system. She told the Dáil that the Government is determined to have a "more comprehensive underground system embracing all of the city."

Meanwhile, she also revealed that work on the two LUAS lines is proceeding. The line from Tallaght to Abbey Street is expected to be concluded in 2002 while the line from Sandyford to St. Stephen's Green will be finished a year later.
