Gardaí speak with mother of baby found dead in Cork

Gardaí investigating the discovery of the body of a new-born baby in County Cork have made contact with the mother.

Gardaí investigating the discovery of the body of a newborn baby in County Cork have made contact with the mother. The infant's body was found at a housing estate in the village of Rylane yesterday afternoon. A post-mortem examination has found that the baby was stillborn.

The post-mortem was carried out last night by the Assistant State Pathologist, Marie Cassidy. It is thought the baby could have been buried for up to two weeks. Gardaí have described the death as very tragic and the child's mother is to be offered counselling by Health Board staff.
