Chechnya,Council of Europe delegation investigates claims of abuses
A Council of Europe delegation is in Chechnya to investigate reports of atrocities and human rights abuses, which have threatened Russia's seat on the human rights body. The team has demanded access to Russia's notorious detention centres, the focus of reports of rape, beatings and other human rights abuses by Russian troops. Fierce fighting has flared again in the region as Moscow continues to try and crush resistance.
