U2 to receive Freedom of Dublin City

The Freedom of the Dublin city is to be conferred on the members of U2, the band's manager, Paul McGuinness and Burmese opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi.

The Freedom of the Dublin City is to be conferred on the members of U2, the band's manager, Paul McGuinness and Burmese opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi. The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Mary Freehill announced that the six will be conferred with the honour at a special ceremony in Smithfield on the 18th March next. Eleven thousands tickets, available free of charge, will be issued for the event. The organisers have stressed that U2 will not be playing at the ceremony.
