The United Nations has made an urgent appeal for more international help for Mozambique, where thousands have been left stranded by the worst floods in the country's history. A spokesperson for the UN World Food Programme said that helicopters and light aircraft were now urgently needed to rescue people in remote areas and to help distribute aid to the hundreds of 800,000 people left homeless. So far the floods have claimed the lives of over 300 people in Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana.
