Southern Mozambique, Suffering worst rains in over 50 years
Authorities in Mozambique have warned that Cyclone Eline could reach the region later today. Mozambique is still struggling to cope with the recent floods in the region, which have left over 800,000 people homeless. United Nations officials in the country say that a third of those need urgent medical supplies. The south of the country is suffering the worst rains in more than 50 years.
The UN and the Mozambique government are expected to make a joint appeal for financial aid this week. The World Food Programme's representative, Georgia Shaver, says that it is difficult to reach many areas. The Irish Government has approved £160,000 in emergency funding for the victims of the floods.
