Russian troops control most of Grozny

watch

Chechen rebel troops admit they now control very little of the capital city, Grozny. Russian troops have taken most of the city and are turning their attention to rebel troops still hiding in mountains south of the capital. Russian troops have been patrolling Grozny, surveying the result of months of bombardment. The Russian flag has been hoisted over government buildings. Those still living in Grozny, mostly women and children, have been staying in cellars underneath the bombed-out buildings for the last two months. The city is a wasteland and Russia has said it has no money to restore it.
